The Minister of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory (FCT’) Mr Nyesom Wike has approved the Abuja maiden infrastructure investment Expo initiative to explore strategic areas that will attract investment opportunities and boost development.
Mr. Benedict Daudu, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on legal and multilateral cooperation, made this announcement during the first committee meeting convened to expedite the planning of the expo scheduled for the first half of 2024.
Highlighting the importance of public-private partnerships in driving development, Daudu emphasized the expo’s focus on enticing investors keen on contributing to infrastructure development across various sectors. The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to position Abuja as a smart city through collaboration with local and foreign investors under PPP arrangements.
The expo seeks to catalyze infrastructure development, particularly in districts or communities lacking basic amenities, thereby elevating Abuja’s global standing. Daudu stressed the significance of tapping into the territory’s untapped potential and opportunities.
Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, Acting Director of the Department of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement at the FCTA and a committee member, commended the minister’s visionary approach to reshaping the infrastructure landscape in the nation’s capital. She reiterated the committee’s commitment to devising a comprehensive strategy aligned with Wike’s vision for a revitalized FCT, with a focus on addressing infrastructure deficits and leveraging tourism potential.
Ahmadu emphasized the significance of the infrastructure investment expo as a pioneering initiative that underscores the necessity of collaboration between the government and private sector. She emphasized the potential for tourism development to drive revenue generation for the FCT Administration.
